Public Transport
All forms of public transport in the netherlands (Train, Bus, Tram) can be paid using an OV-chipkaart.
Tickets can be bought in the station or in the bus with PIN, but you will have to pay for the whole train/bus line and not the distance to your destination.
There are two types of OV-chipkaarts, anonymous and personal. Anonymous OV-chipkaarts can be bought in the station and can be useful for people who are staying in the Netherlands for a couple weeks. For longer stays, it is recommended to get a Personal OV-chipkaarts.
By making your own personal OV-chipkaart, you will be able to buy discounts, such as:
- 40% train discount for €50 per year (Highly recommended even if you do not travel much}
- Subscriptions for unlimited travel if you need to take the train frequently
